You're killin me, Rich.

You had me with the title of this post, and then you lost me. Clear up my ignorance. How is McCain fucking me in a way that Obama won't be fucking me? And what if I want to be fucked by McCain? What if after fucking Obama, I want McCain? I know that once you go black...but...

Seriously, I'm struggling between two candidates who I like certain things about but not other things. On one hand, McCain's age, temper and moral ambiguities, and the other hand, a guy whom if we looked at his resume and he was white, I don't think anyone would even know who he was, or even care(you can say the same for Palin). I fear that this entire presidential race is based on disingenuity, and that come this fall, people will be going to the booth voting for truly wrong reasons (race and sex), on both sides, as much as they'd like to say that they aren't.

There are far bigger issues at stake in this election than tempers and moral ambiguities.

The middle class is disappearing. Over the last few decades, and especially the last 8 years, the incomes of the extremely wealthy have been going up dramatically. The middle- and lower-class have seen their incomes staying flat or dropping. During that time, health insurance and college tuition has been getting less and less affordable. And yet, the Republican party and John McCain continues to support massive tax breaks for the wealthy and time after time fights against anything that would give people the resources they need to succeed.

Our economy is literally collapsing in front of our eyes, due to the fact that the Republican party and John McCain have been fighting any forms of regulation that the Democrats have been trying to pass that would have made this collapse much less likely to happen.

Much of the world hates us. We started a war in Iraq that was viewed as illegitimate by most of the world, that clearly has not made us any safer, and that we continue to fight despite the fact that's it's clear our occupation of Iraq has exacerbated global terrorism and fanned the flames of Islamic extremism and completely decimated the country of Iraq.

We're facing the potential of climate change on a massive scale (the near-unanimous consensus is that there's around a 95% chance much or most of the increase in temperature is caused by human-generated greenhouse gas emissions), with the consequences being destabilization on a global scale probably never seen before, and the Republican party has until very recently refused to admit that scientific consensus on this issue is cause for concern (and many of them still refuse to admit that).

I could go on and on, but that should be scary enough.

Barack Obama is an unbelievably gifted politician. True, he has been in the US Senate for a relatively short period of time. But, he's been right about every major issue. He was right about the consequences of invading Iraq. He was saying we should act against extremists in Pakistan if we had actionable intelligence, while the Republicans were saying we can't do that and to trust Musharraf... well now Musharraf is gone and Bush has taken military action in the Pakistani tribal regions. Obama has always been 2 steps ahead on every issue. Just read the speech he gave right before the Iraq War:

Now imagine someone with that kind of judgment and foresight in charge of the country.

Not only that, but it's been Obama's hallmark that he is extremely skilled at acheiving results by bringing people together who normally disagree over what they can agree on. He worked with Republican Senator Dick Lugar to pass a bill to secure nuclear material from getting into the hands of terrorists. He managed to get an lobbying/ethics reform bill passed through Congress, and was able to work with Republicans to do it, despite Republicans' historical opposition to that type of reform. He has earned the respect of Republican members of the Senate, because he's focused on achieving results where they can be achieved.

People always go to the voting booth voting for truly wrong reasons. That's why campaigns are so fucked up. If people were informed and voted for the right reasons, then campaigns would have to be civilized discussions on the issues, because the people wouldn't stand for anything else. Instead, you get lying with no accountability, because well... people are gullible, and it works.

All we can do is attempt to remain informed, and attempt to keep others informed.

Oh and by the way, I would recommend fucking Obama over McCain. Obama works out a lot, and McCain is very old.
